About the Company

Vertex was established in 1953 as a workshop producing spare parts for agricultural engines and pumps. The name “Vertex,” meaning “summit” in Latin, was chosen by a priest who blessed the original workshop.

1963: Introduction of the first CNC lines for 2-stroke pistons.
1972: Acquisition of heat treatment expertise from a German company.
1980–82: Acquired by the YAMA group; production expands to gardening equipment and scooters.
1992: Launch of exotic-material pistons for off-road use; entry into the aftermarket.
1995–96: Becomes KTM’s OEM partner for racing and production pistons, a collaboration that continues today.

Technology & Manufacturing

All production takes place in Italy using advanced CNC machines directly connected to quality control departments.
The facility includes gravity casting, external hot forging, high-precision machining, and climate-controlled inspection areas.

Yes, the company has been ISO 9001 certified since 1997. Digital transformation and paperless traceability are currently being implemented.

Product Range

2-Stroke Pistons: Cast aluminum pistons with 18% silicon, MoS₂ coating, hardened pins, T5/T6 heat treatment.
F4-Stroke Pistons: High-performance pistons with advanced machining precision.
Race Evolution pistons: Racing-grade 2T pistons featuring thinner ring profiles, reduced top land, and optimized geometry.

High-performance 2-stroke pistons designed for competitive use. These feature a reduced top land, 0.8 mm ring, advanced skirt design, and MoS₂ coating with grooves for superior lubrication and power.

Pins, Rings, and Add-ons

All pistons use case-hardened (nitrided) pins.

DLC-coated pins are available on some KTM 4-stroke applications.

Nitrided pins ensure long-lasting durability, especially when used with bronze or steel rod small ends.

OEM and Aftermarket

Vertex is the official OEM piston supplier for KTM since 1996, with its pistons used in many KTM, Husqvarna, and GasGas motorcycles.

Yes. Aftermarket pistons are designed to meet or exceed OEM standards, using the same materials, tolerances, and treatments.

Support & Distribution

Standard catalog items are shipped within 24 hours.

OEM and custom parts are shipped based on individual agreements.

Vertex offers global commercial and technical support. Whether you’re an OEM partner or a racing team, the support team provides first-class assistance and expertise.

Technical Questions

Vertex 2T cast pistons are made with high silicon content, offering low thermal expansion and high wear resistance. MoS₂ coating enhances break-in and durability.

4T pistons are manufactured with precision and reliability in mind, though cast and forged pistons differ in microstructure.

Yes. Standard OEM-replacement kits are plug-and-play, including piston, rings, wrist pin, and circlips. They are designed for direct compatibility.
